Workshop for the Development of National Plan for Caucasian Leopard Conservation Project

Posted on February, 26 2019

On February 25-26, a workshop on "National Plan for the Conservation of Leopard" was held in Vayk town of Vayots Dzor region.

The workshop was organized by WWF Armenia in cooperation with the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia. More than 30 specialists and experts participated in the workshop from state bodies, private sector and scientific institutions.

The aim of the "National Plan for the Conservation of Leopard" was to revise the leopard conservation, monitoring, educational, population engagement and other activities for 10 years. It will be elaborated on the basis of the Regional Strategy of Leopard Conservation, which was launched at the conference in Tbilisi in 2017. More than 100 local and international specialists participated in the development of this strategy.

The development of the national plan has both environmental and socio-educational significance.

Interestingly, on the same day, Arpa Protected Landscape's rangers saw the leopard by their own eyes in the area where the workshop was being conducted. They even could make a video of the leopard. This was the first time when any human being could make a video of the leopard without a camera trap in Armenia. You can watch the video here.
