The Pallas's Cat (Otocolobus manul) in Armenia

One of the most mysterious and the least known predators of Armenia is rediscovered in the country after a century. WWF-Armenia, in cooperation with its wildlife caretakers of Tavush region, has discovered a Pallas's cat (Otocolobus manul) in January 2020 (please find the footage).

The Pallas's cat is among the rarest mammals of the region and Armenia for instance, where it has been recorded only in the 1920–1930s in south-western part of the country. The species is listed on the Red Data Book of Armenia and was considered as extinct.

And now, this cat has been recorded in north-eastern Armenia about 140 km away from the nearest historical localities. Suitable habitats for the species in Armenia are limited, with western limits of Khosrov Forest State Reserve holding the largest tract of potential habitats.
