Opening of EcoEpicenter

On June 5, the World Environment Day, the opening of the Armenian Biodiversity Information and Education Centre, EcoEpicenter, took place, which was established in collaboration between the Institute of Botany after A. Takhtajyan NAS RA, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and World Wide Fund for Nature Armenian Branch (WWF Armenia).

The content and design of the exhibition were developed by the staff of the Institute of Botany and GIZ through the Environment Programme funded by the German Government. The renovation and furnishing of the building were supported by WWF Armenia, through the Transboundary Joint Secretariat (TJS) project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through KfW.

The President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Academician Radik Martirosyan, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Karen Trchunyan, the Deputy Minister of Environment Anna Mazmanyan, the Director of the WWF Armenia Karen Manvelyan, the Director of the Institute of Botany of the National Academy were present at the event. The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia, H.E. Dr. Michael Johannes Banzhaf, was very happy that the World Environment Day was marked in Armenia with the opening of an ecological epicenter. "This center will be very important, it will serve all those who want to strengthen the conservation of biodiversity in Armenia. I am very happy that there will now be a center inside the Botanical Garden, where children will be able to learn about nature and get closer to nature. Germany, represented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, is committed to the protection of biodiversity around the world," he said.
